Lakeville

After dealing with Lord Damien, Slothrop showed up and the group set out for Lakeville, to pick up a guide to take them to Myth Sveldin and find Rya. The road was easy going south, and they passed a massive elk migration on the way. That night as they camped they noticed the stars, picking out the Seven Prongs of The Stag, the bright star that marks the Heron’s head, Tymora’s Dagger pointing south as it always does, the cluster of stars that form the crook of the Shephard’s staff, the Chained Maiden’s box-shaped veil, and Oghma’s simple Cross.

The next day they came upon Lakeville. They found a small settlement of maybe sixty simple houses, well-maintained with tidy yards, sloping down a gentle hill to a frozen lake. They could make out a large building in the middle of town--which looked more like a neighborhood than anything--and another non-residential structure out on a small spit of land reaching into the lake. They passed a man toiling in his garden stacking wood who pointed them to the Public House.

At the Public House they met Surrey Blaine who asked if they were just stopping through or looking to head to Old Weir. He served them a mug of Roger's Finest. Ironica asked if he had seen or heard of a woman named Rya. Rya Rezna, he asked? Sure, she had moved to town pretty recently, just set up her home. He could show them if they liked...

Surrey Blaine thought it would be nice to bring Rya a drink--a little "winter warmer"--and ladled her a mug of muddled wine. Others thought they would re-up on their drinks as well. Surrey took a vial of clear blueish liquid and tippled a few drops into Rya's drink before asking the group if they also took their drinks "with." Funny, the clear blueish liquid looked strikingly similar to laudinsfös. "With" what they asked. Surrey told them it was hisperin root extract of course, commonly known as laudinsfös. The group quickly told him that no no, they do NOT take theirs "with", not such a highly addictive substance like sfös! Dala'gse grimaced. Surrey smiled, winked, told them he understood and threw back a few drops himself.

He then led them out of the Public House and wended the way to a one of the nearly identical squat houses where they saw a woman out front, bundled in furs, stringing a line of fish over a smoky fire in her front plot. She had just the beginnings of silver streaking her raven black hair. You’d swear she was the woman who fell out of the sky back in Wade's Bog except she looked twenty years younger. Surrey introduced her as Rya and after exchanging pleasantries the group asked Surrey if he would excuse them but they had some private matters to discuss with Rya.

Safad told her of her mother's death, D'Luk's concern, and the Hibernal's plight. She was sad about her mother, remember D'Luk fondly, but informed them she wanted nothing to do with the goings on in Old Weir. Everyone there was so busy busy busy all the time, running around this way and that, while she and her friends in Lakeville have it made: they've all retired young and enjoy the good life, the simple life. She took a drought of her sfös-laden muddled wine. The group was slightly concerned but she said she had no interest in turning back.

She told them of the wonders of Myth Sveldin and said she would be overjoyed to lead them to the Sveldingate in her first time as guide! The group agreed they should check it out. First, they decided to swing by Myth Sveldin Treasure: Sales & Rentals to see what they had. They met Keebius Fowl and Zundar the Wise there, a pair of retired adventurers, like everyone else in town. Zireael bartered for a magical longsword and a potion of healing. Dala'gse wanted to try out a new warhammer. Keebius and Zundar offered him one but they could not tell him what was special about it...in fact, they did not seem to really know much about their inventory. Dala'gse was not impressed. He smashed the wall and was asked to wait outside.

Outside, he grew interested in the ice fishing huts on the Lake and went down to see about them. The group joined him and they met Prissa the Bear coming back with a catch for the market. She told them the only one left out there was a gnome named Po Trout who wasn't very good a fishing, just didn't have the feel for the jig. They went out to the hut to meet him and found him there, swigging a bottle of sfös-tinged something, barely a few fish to mark the day. He was pleasant enough and told them about Myth Sveldin, and how he was famous in town for having solved the Statue Trap problem. Slothrop convinced Po to join them on the journey to Myth Sveldin, and to make sure they brought plent of hisperin, maybe even some extra stores. Dala'gse convinced him to to take them fishing the next morning.

The group headed back up to the boarding house adjacent to The Public House where they met Jesra Ord and Alice the Acrid, who were all set up to host them in the bunkhouse. They had heard of their arrival from Prissa who had heard from Keebius who had heard from Surrey. Small town. Before settling in, they stopped by the Public House, for one more round, "without." They were greeted by new barmen, Pelham Strongbow and Malacraft Butte. Malacraft was a Dragonborn and told them of his time in Myth Sveldin. The group then went back to bed, except Zireael. Zireael sneaked down to the docks where he found some very large dock spiders and associated eggsacs. He brought back a few of them and laid them delicately on a sleeping Safad.

Safad awoke to the feeling of something crawling slowly up his chest, onto his exposed neck. A hairy, multi-appendage bristle-feeling creeping toward his face! Safad fell off the top bunk in terror while Slothrop made his dancing lights resemble even larger spiders, further terrifying the poor Calamshani. Safad blast a spell at Zireael in anger. Alice confronted the ruckus in her boardinghouse, and Dala'gse went down to the lake at the crack of dawn to meet Po Trout as promised. Po showed him how to use the ice awl and they got set up in his hut. Dala'gse caught a good size small-mouth, and another smaller fish, while Po only caught a little fella. They returned to the boardinghouse and met Rya and the group, to set out for Myth Sveldin.

Po explained that it was Rya's first guiding gig, so she would be the lead, and he would lend his expertise where appropriate. Slothrop eyed the approaching dawn annoyed, drawing the cowl of his cloak over his eyes. Zireael tended his magic burn wound. Dala'gse tenderly cared for his fish. Safad was still shaken, feeling spiders everywhere. And they set off for Myth Sveldin.
