The Wastekeeper Guild
Old Weir prides itself on its civic-mindedness, beauty, efficiency and cleanliness. The Wastekeeper Guild work tirelessly behind the scenes making much of that image a reality.
With headquarters located just behind the Council of Peers building and associated municipal offices, the guild numbers a couple dozen souls--known for their particularly thick Weirish accents--who work long shifts toiling the streets and alleys of town picking up garbage with their long hooked poles, a depositing them in their well-worn carts. Children in Old Weir are often minded to keep an ear out for the telltale bells attached to the donkeys as the carts pass, and are scolded to get the garbage pails out quickly to the men and women driving them.
Once the carts are filled up the Wastekeepers drive their carts out of town to one of the garbage pits where they bury foodscraps and burn other waste. The Guild is headed up by a druid who oversees the operation, its sustainability, and works to minimize the environmental impact.
It's been said the Wastekeepers hired a few more men and put in overtime over the Midwinter holiday, toiling while others revel to keep the town beautiful for all the tourists.
