The Feast of Midwinter
Everyone gathered back at Bask's grove and cabin and awoke to the druid preparing a Midwinter feast. The brown bear cubs were in attendance and recent travails had been temporarily forgotten. Even Nell managed to come out of her shell a little bit by Nancy and Ironica's side.
The group asked about the history of Myth Sveldin and Bask told them what she knew: that around a decade ago is when she first heard about it, around the last time she was in Old Weir helping the Wastekeepers design their trash pits; adventurers used Old Weir as a jumping off point and many later settled in Lakeville after they made struck it rich; the ruin is an old dwarven or gnomish or elvish city that fell many many eons ago; the entrance into the Underdark is easy to find but the journey to the 'Sveldingate' can take around 4 days; most adventurers stop in Lakeville for a guide.
Bask implored the group to help uncover what was going on with the forest, that potentially has to do with the disrupted subterranean ecology. The group agreed they would try and Bask agreed to take care of Nell.
Zireael, Dala'gse, Ironica, and Safad set out for the scene of the Battle of the Bulettes. The thought they would follow the tunnels and see where they went. About a mile underground they realized they may be in the middle of an underground Bulette highway and probably better to turn back to the surface. Instead, they set out toward Lakeville through the southern tip of the Forgotten Forest.
At the forest's edge they came upon a sheep and cattle farm and Dala'gse thought he'd give the outhouse a sniff. It was fresher than he bargained for: inside was a cowering farmhand named Evan. He told them two carrion crawlers were having their own Midwinter feast inside on the bodies of his former employers. Zireael charged straight ahead.
After busting down the door he saw that indeed the two of the ugly poison slugs had set up shop and were about halfway through the left haunch of Mr and Mrs John D Farmer when he surprised them and set into them with his vicious blade. They turned on him after his attack and their poison tentacles struck true--Z was paralyzed. Ironica took her turn to drag him out of the farmhouse. Dala'gse went charging in, enraged. He struck true as well only to be paralyzed by an errant tentacle after his attack. Safad blasted magic missiles at the monsters.
Ironica and Safad took turns firing ranged attacks while the carrion crawlers attacked Dala'gse. Z woke up and pulled Dala'gse out of the house, standing at the ready in front of him. The battle wore on with carrion crawlers dealing significant poison damage to Zireael and Dala'gse while Ironica sneak attacked and Safad empowered his spells. After a lengthy back and forth the group prevailed, and managed to squeeze out 8 vials of poison from their mucous membranes. They also trimmed off the black tentacle by the mandibles in hopes of claiming a 300gp reward.
