Vostewylde Alliance
The Vostewylde Alliance is the regional government of the area formerly known as "The Savage Frontier," southeast of the High Forest in the western reaches of the Greypeak Mountains, where Delimbyr river tributaries flow through the hills and vales. The economy is driven by mining (predominantly platinum, formerly more iron and silver), trade between cities in the Lords Alliance to the west and elsewhere to the east, farming (orchards, grain, and hops), and beer exports. It is rumored the current leader of the region, the Monarch, has rebranded the region as an attempt to join the Lords Alliance of major cities to the west. Cities and towns in the region include:
- Innesbyr, the capital
- Kaldera, to the north
- Meadower, to the west
- Firsburg, to the south
- Dawn Pass Hold (formerly Llorkh), to the northeast
- Estford, to the east
- Old Weir, to the southeast, over the Gap of Lodun
The Monarch and his vassal, The Captain, are attributed with cleaning up the Savage Frontier: ridding the Greypeaks of their goblin infestation, flushing the gnolls from the forests, limiting banditry on the major roads, wresting domination of the trade routes from the Zhentarim, and coming to a general understanding with the native stone giants. With the area cleaned up, the Monarch forged the alliance with the larger towns and cities who now prosper under the more unified regional economy, and happily send taxes to Innesbyr for the newfound prosperity and security.
One exception is Old Weir, which has always been a bit resistant to the alliance. Why should they send money to some Monarch on the other side of the mountains when they've always done fine on their own? However, the Council of Peers decided a decade ago to join, after noticing clean roads meant more business for their famous ranging school, more tourism around its celebrated Midwinter holiday tradition, and more access to the town itself--which has become a homebase for adventurers from the heartlands who now seek to explore some of the older ruins and locales east of the ever expanding embrace of civilization.
Lately, however, the newfound peace is being unsettled. Monsters from the underdark are attacking farms, travelers to the region are fewer, and bandits have recently killed Alliance guards outright on the Innesbyr road...
