Hagar's Mine

An strange wind whipped up in the tunnels and caverns of Myth Sveldin as the Misfit Six, the Lakeville Junkies, and the Geriatric Goblin Vets camped in Statue Square. The wind swirled about as though simultaneously announcing the departure of one presence and the arrival of another -- as though a new god now smiled down upon the group--or would it turn out to be a frowning god?

Wailing and screaming was heard from passageways ahead and to the right--wailing awfully similar to the keen of a Banshee, Zireael noted. The group decided to head left, 8 o'clock, towards what Po had described as Hagar's Mine. The going was tentative as the group made its first foray into the eerie eldritch depths of Myth Sveldin. The walls glistened with what turned out to be acidic ooze as they passed a couple creepy pools. The group threw rocks at each. Turns out they were filled with a strange subterranean fish, reddish in color. Po thought it was called a herring. They kept walking.

Along the way the spotted more of these fish, red herrings, that seemed to have escaped the pool. Until they stopped looking for them and Dala'gse barely dodged a pit trap replete with spikes and all. He didn't dodge the next one, a swinging door/ceiling trap that managed to cut up his shoulder pretty bad. They kept going.

They found an empty mine shaft and Rook checked it out but it was blocked by a cave in. They kept going.

They found another mine shaft, and traveled down it. At the bottom they found a door, and on the other side two drow teenagers flying on domesticated giant bats, frantic and clearly fleeing something. They crashed into the wall and fell off their mounts, stunned, as the bats flew off through the open doorway. When they recovered they saw one was dressed in fancy furs and wealthy attire, with a bat holy symbol on a pendant on her neck. She introduced herself as Ayzalla, a Drow princess, and her companion she indicated was her servant guard boy.

Ayzalla then told the party that her sister was captured by a group of evil Duergar (deep dwarves), and she asked for their aid in getting her back. They agreed, but Nancy made sure to agree that they would be well compensated for their efforts. Ayzalla rolled her eyes and said did she like even know who her parents are? Nancy was like, Dad?

So the group kept going down the corridor until they came to another door. Dala'gse knocked and the party heard all sorts of commotion behind it. Z kicked it down and the pair of them crept into a large open cavern with a hillock sloping up to the right. Suddenly a pair of lizards, or was it six?, started blinking into existence and blinking away again, leaving a necrotic bite in the meantime. As they tried to swat at the creatures Nancy and Ironica charged into the room and headed for a couple columns for cover. They kept getting swatted at by invisible deep dwarves with hurtful hammers. Oh, and they also ran over strange runes that froze them in place. Oh, and there was also a mage and a cleric raining chaos in the form of damaging spells from above. Oh, and the dwarves were also getting healed and enlarged.

Safad decided to magic missile the little lizard pests and made quick work of a number of them. Z got to work on some of the dwarves. Nancy and Ironica made for the captured sister and tried to unbind her, but Oh, it was a magical rope of binding. They sawed away at it in vain. Safad rushed into the fray only to be frozen by runes and bit by lizards. Z started shooting arrows at the mage and the cleric. They kept healing, enlarging, and raining damage down on the group. The semi-invisible dwarves kept annoying the party, as did some new crop of lizards.

The tide of battle turned when the party realized they could enlist Ayzalla to help heal them. She did a fine job. And then Nancy thunderwaved dwarves backward. Finally, Z came to help and together with Ironica and Nancy they untied the sister, who Oh, was a powerful mage in her own right. She incinerated the opposing cleric, and helped the group make short work of the mage.

The battle was won, and the spoils were sweet. The party's eyes gleamed at their first taste of what a real dungeon crawl could uncover. First, they found boots of haste and a robe of summoning on the dead wizard. Then, they were given Ayzalla's magical life stealing dagger, along with 250gp and when the children's parents came to retrieve them, the powerful priestess mother gave them a magical gold coin that promised to send succor in time of need if it was flipped into the air just so.

With that, the group made its way back through the tunnel to Statue Square.
